Cy Twombly
Catalogue Raisonné des Oeuvres sur Papier
Volume VI, 1973–76
Yvon Lambert Catalogue Raisonné des Oeuvres sur Papier 1973–76 is one of two volumes Lambert produced on Twombly’s works on paper. Both volumes have been revised and updated in the Del Roscio catalogues raisonnés of drawings. Vol. VI corresponds to Del Roscio Vol. VI. As the Lambert volumes are both difficult to access and now superseded, the Del Roscio editions should be consulted wherever possible. The introductory essay to this volume is Roland Barthes’s “Non Multa Sed Multum.” This essay is more readily accessible in reproductions in later books, e.g., Cy Twombly at the Hermitage: Fifty Years of Works on Paper, ed. Julie Sylvester (2008).
Notably, this volume includes more black and white reproduction than the later editions, which are fully in color, though there are brief discursive and historical notes in French about certain artworks and series. Works reproduced here include Gladings (Love’s Infinite Causes), 24 Short Pieces, Turn + Coda, Virgil, To Balla, Bay of Napoli, Dithyrambus, Aristaeus Mourning the Loss of His Bees, and Betty’s Buns. For further notes on contents and relevant literature, see Cy Twombly Catalogue Raisonné of Drawings Vol. VI, ed. Del Roscio.
