Cy Twombly
Arbeitein auf Papier

This exhibition catalogue, published by Galerie Karsten Greve in 1982, includes a brief forward from Karsten Greve, a list of works exhibited, and reproductions. It was published in an edition of 1200 numbered copies with 200 signed by the artist. There is no discursive text.

In his one-page forward, Greve discusses the genesis of the exhibition and the distinction he identifies between Twombly’s earlier artworks and his artworks of the early 1980s, locating the departure specifically in shifting from primacy of form to primacy of color.

Those researching Twombly’s works on paper may also consult: Cy Twombly: Fifty Years of Works on Paper(2005) in either the Hermitage or Serpentine editions, Cy Twombly: Works on Paper, published by Galerie Karsten Greve (2013), Cy Twombly: Fifty Years of Works on Paper, published by the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art (2015), and major monographs on Twombly’s practice that discuss works on paper, such as Richard Leeman’s Cy Twombly: A Monograph (2005).
