Cy Twombly
Tulips. Fifteen Photographs
This catalogue, produced alongside an exhibition of the same name at Schirmel / Mosel Showroom in Munich in 2010, includes 15 photographs of tulips taken by Twombly in 1985. The photographs were printed in editions of 6 and signed and numbered by the artist. The volume is briefly introduced by a reproduction of the New Encyclopaedia Britannica entry for “Tulip Mania,” describing the demand for, economics of, and consequences following the mass speculation and demand for the bulbs in the Netherlands in the 17th century. There are no discursive texts about the photographs themselves; the volume will therefore primarily be of interest to those seeking reproductions of the photographs themselves.
Scholars interested in this volume may also be interested in other exhibition catalogues and texts addressing Twombly’s photography, including: States of Mind: Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Drawing, published by the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, Vienna (2009); Cy Twombly: Photographs III 1951–2010, published by the Museum Brandhorst and Bayerische Staatsgmäldesammlungen (2011); and Cy Twombly: Photographs, published by Gagosian Gallery (2012).
