In this volume, published in German by Kleinheinrich, Klaus-Peter Busse explores the important role of collages in the development of Cy Twombly's artistic research.
The volume is comprensively structured into sixteen chapters: “Putting Things Together”, “Poikilos”, “Einschreibungen”, “Entblendungen”, “Autobiographische Spuren”, “Bildkommentare”, “Palimpsest”, “Metaphern”, “Atlas”, “Album”, “Bildspiele”, “Szenen”, “Handlungsfeld”, “Schauplatz”, “Werkpanorama”, and “Viewing Together.”
Through these chapters, the publication examines how Twombly condensed images, notes, inscriptions and photographs into his collages, gathering the foundational elements that underpin Twombly's entire artistic output through a sort of “palimpsest”, which contributes to the development of his complex artistic practice, defined by the author as a "literarische werkstatt" ("literary workshop").
