Cy Dear (2018) offers a sensitive portrait of Cy Twombly through rare footage of the artist and interviews with some of his friends and colleagues, including preeminent figures from the international contemporary art scene. Under the guidance of Nicola Del Roscio, President of the Cy Twombly Foundation, we meet the artist’s son Alessandro Twombly; art dealer Larry Gagosian; Sir Nicholas Serota, the long-time director of the Tate Gallery in London; Jonas Storsve, the curator of Twombly’s retrospective at Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2016; artists Sally Mann and Dorothea Rockburne; Renzo Piano, the architect who designed the Twombly Gallery at Houston’s Menil Collection, and others.

Since its premiere in 2019 at the Festival International du Film sur l’Art (FIFA) in Montreal, the film has been presented at special events and venues, including the MoMA, New York; the National Portrait Gallery, London; the Louvre Museum, Paris; the Brandhorst Museum, Munich; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Fondazione Nicola Del Roscio, Rome; Moderna Museet, Stockholm.

Cy Dear is directed by Andrea Bettinetti and produced by Michele Bongiorno for Good Day Films, in collaboration with the Cy Twombly Foundation and the Fondazione Nicola Del Roscio.
