from the press release

The exhibition aims to highlight the different artistic translation of the naturalistic canon proposed by Giorgio Morandi (Bologna, 1890–1964) and Cy Twombly (Lexington, 1928–Rome, 2011) through an unprecedented comparison with Michelangelo Antonioni (Ferrara , 1912 –Rome, 2007), whose relationship with painting has ancient roots. Works apparently distant in style and iconography are shown together, and contrary to their raison d'etre, found to be extremely similar to the poetic vision of the filmmaker.

Morandi's paintings and the "nature" photographs of Twombly, next to the archival materials exhibited in the museum and the conceptual legacy of the Ferrarese director, underline the innovative exploration of the visual devices used by the three artists.
