In Perspective 2 | Episode Three
Un/veiled.
Cy Twombly, Music, Inspirations
ISABELLA SUMMERS
A video of her live performance which took place at Fondazione Nicola Del Roscio in Rome on the occasion of the first edition of the Un/veiled program will be available for forty-eight hours beginning on January 29th, 2026.
The journey between poetry and sound in Cy Twombly’s work continues with the third episode of the second season of In Perspective.
This time the viewer is invited to discover the musical project by the composer and musician Isabella Summers, To Neptune, Ruler of the Seas Profound (2019).
Following Cy Twombly’s life chronologically and taking inspiration from the most celebrated works by the artist, Summers reinterprets Twombly’s language, translating its signs and inscriptions into sound and making use of the same quotations, drawn from poems and literary texts, as can be found in the artist’s works.
The piece, composed and recorded in 2019, was originally played through headphones on the occasion of the exhibition Cy Twombly: Sculpture at Gagosian in London. Later in May 2022, on the occasion of the first edition of the Un/veiled program, the composition was arranged for orchestra by the musician for the live performance held at the Fondazione Nicola Del Roscio in Rome and further expanded for a second live performance on the occasion of the exhibition Cy Twombly at Gagosian in Los Angeles in December 2022.
An audio conversation between Isabella Summers and Tatiana Cheneviere, curator of the project, about the origin and the creative process behind the musical piece will be available both on the episode and on our Podbean podcast channel.
The video of the full live performance, which took place as Italian premiere at Fondazione Nicola Del Roscio in Rome on May 27th and 28th, 2022, on the occasion of the Un/veiled program, will be part of the episode and available for forty-eight hours beginning on January 29th, 2026.
