On February 4th, at 5.30 pm, the GNAMC—Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome will present the publication Cy Twombly, published by Electa with the support of Gruppo MAIRE.
The bilingual Italian/English publication project has been conceived on the occasion of the last September presentation of three donations to the museum by the Cy Twombly Foundation, following the opening of a permanent gallery dedicated to the artist at the GNAMC.
Eleven artworks by Cy Twombly have been added to the permanent collection, in addition to the grants for the renovation of the conservation department of the museum and an international postgraduate course dedicated to the conservation of contemporary works on paper, both named after Cy Twombly.
The publication, which consists of three volumes in a refined box set, features Roland Barthes' essays about the artist's work (Non Multa sed Multum and The Wisdom of Art, both published in 1979), introduced by an essay by Andrea Cortellessa (Volume I), a text by Fabio Mauri on Rome in the 1960s, (Volume II), and a series of essays by Renata Cristina Mazzantini, Nicola Del Roscio, Mariastella Margozzi, and Stefano Marson (Volume III) that trace the artist's deep connection with Italy, the presence of his works in the Galleria Nazionale's permanent collection and the recent donations from the Cy Twombly Foundation.
As Nicola del Roscio, President of the Cy Twombly Foundation, writes in his text, Viaggio in Italia: "[...] the Foundation, through a donation of works [...] wished to pay tribute to Cy's connection with everything that embodies the essence of Italianness: architecture, creativity, landscape, cuisine, and history [...]"
