Cy Twombly: “White Zones”
Three–day conference at the University of Cologne

Organized by art historian Thierry Greub, the conference will see the gathering of art historians, curators, conservators, scholars and artists, from Europe and the United States, to explore “blind spots” in Twombly’s œuvre and to subject common narratives to a critical revision.

October 24–26, 2024
University of Cologne, Germany

Although Cy Twombly is considered a well-researched artist, there are still “white zones” in his oeuvre. In addition to unpublished archive material, unprocessed groups of works and transmedial sources of inspiration, these include in particular the early years of his artistic development and, last but not least, powerful myths about his work and the artist. The Cologne congress “Cy Twombly: ‘White Zones’” aims to explore “blind spots” in Twombly’s oeuvre and to subject common narratives to a critical revision.

Keynote speaker: Richard Shiff

Organizer: Thierry Greub (as part of the DFG project “Werklatenz und Lebensspur: Gesamtdarstellung des Œuvres Cy Twomblys”)

The conference is open to the public, no registration required.
